*tap tap tap* Is this thing on?
Boo.
No, this is not a trick; it is indeed a new post. Welcome back, old friend. It’s been a while. While I’ve poked at this site on and off over the last few years and updated the portfolio and the reference bookshelf, I certainly haven’t managed to post to the blog with any real consistency. If there’s anyone here reading, my apologies. But today is a new day, so let’s catch you up to speed. In June, 2022, I left Penn State after 26 years and joined Cornell University. The official title is Digital UX Strategist, and let’s just say a bad week at this job is gloriously better than a good day in my last job. I get to work with a lot of talented people, work on some interesting stuff, and it is really energizing (perhaps even a bit too energizing at some points but I’d rather be busy than bored). Although I do drive up to campus several times a year, I am a fully remote worker and, like the rest of the country, I am discovering the impact of that change on my health. Time to shake things up there, too.
This morning over coffee, I stumbled across my friend Chris Wiegman’s blog and it reminded me yet again that you can write short posts with greater frequency and still tell a story. While I’m typically a shoot from the hip kind of gal, I’ve been thinking a lot about the value of structure and the fact that it can provide a balance if you let it. I think I’m craving a bit more balance in my life. so I’ve decided to blow the dust off my largely ignored site, spin up the blog, and see if I can’t keep up a bit of the narrative that I used to enjoy. No promises, though if I show up at your doorstep with some occasional thoughts, please feel free to invite me in, offer me a cup of coffee or glass of wine, and maybe we can start up a conversation again.
I’ve missed you folks, and that would be a real treat.
